Some exterior paint projects are all about completely changing the look of a home. Others are about refining what’s already there and making every detail feel more intentional. That was the goal with this Spokane Valley exterior painting job.
This project focused on creating stronger contrast, cleaner architectural lines, and a finish that would hold up beautifully over time. The homeowners selected a timeless palette built around warm grays and crisp whites to give the home a more elevated, custom appearance while still feeling approachable and livable.
Project Overview
The home featured lap siding, detailed trim work, multiple garage doors, decorative corbels, gutters, downspouts, and several exterior architectural elements that all needed to work together visually.
The selected color palette created a really balanced final result:
- Body: Sherwin-Williams Silverplate
- Garage doors, corbels, and stamped concrete accents: Sherwin-Williams Stamp Concrete
- Accent features including shakes and front post anchors: Sherwin-Williams Anchors Away
- Trim, gutters, and downspouts: Sherwin-Williams Snowbound
The combination gave the home a clean, modern Northwest look with just enough contrast to highlight the architecture without feeling overly trendy.
Our Process
As with every exterior painting project we complete, the process started with preparation. Before any coatings went on, the home was pressure washed to remove dirt, buildup, and loose material and create the cleanest possible surface for paint adhesion.
From there, our crew moved into detailed prep work including sanding, caulking, masking, spot priming, and addressing any exposed or weathered areas before finish coats were applied.
One area that required extra attention on this project was the decorative corbels. These features had experienced significant weather exposure and had started showing rough surfaces and failing paint in areas. Rather than simply coating over them, we took time to scrape and sand away failing material, fill seams using OSI Quad Max caulk, and apply Peel Bond primer to stabilize and rebuild the surface before applying finish coats.
The LP Smart trim also had a few areas where exposure had opened the grain of the material. Those areas were back brushed and back rolled with primer to help fill and seal the surface for better durability and a smoother final appearance.
For the finish system, we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Rain Refresh across the entire exterior. This is one of the highest-performing exterior coatings available and includes self-cleaning technology designed to help dirt wash away naturally over time while maintaining a clean appearance longer.
All exterior surfaces received two full coats for long-term durability and a consistent finish throughout the property.
Challenges & Details
This project wasn’t about dramatic repairs or major reconstruction—it was about execution.
Projects with lighter body colors and crisp trim combinations leave very little room for inconsistency. Clean transitions between Silverplate and Snowbound were important, especially around trim details, window lines, garage doors, and architectural accents.
The darker accent colors also needed to feel intentional rather than overpowering. Anchors Aweigh brought definition to the shakes and front entry details while Stamp Concrete grounded the garage doors and corbels and tied everything together.
These are the kinds of projects where attention to detail matters more than bold color changes.
Final Results
The finished result feels brighter, cleaner, and more custom than before while still fitting naturally into the neighborhood.
Snowbound trim sharpened the entire exterior, Silverplate created a soft, modern body color, and the darker accents gave the home depth and contrast without overwhelming the design.
The updated finish highlighted the architecture, refreshed aging details, and created a durable exterior built to perform through Inland Northwest weather.
At Axiom Painting, we believe great exterior painting should do more than add color—it should elevate the home and create a finish that still looks great years down the road.
