Some color combinations just feel like they belong in North Idaho. For this exterior painting project in Coeur d’Alene, the homeowners selected a beautiful palette built around Sherwin-Williams Pewter Green, Pat Brown, and Tyson Taupe—colors that complement the natural surroundings while giving the home a fresh, updated look.
This Coeur d’Alene Exterior House Painting included a full exterior repaint of both the main residence and detached shop. With over 5,000 square feet of siding, multiple garage doors, detailed trim work, gutters, fascia, soffits, and custom wood accents, the goal was to create a cohesive finish that would enhance the home’s character while providing long-lasting protection from the Inland Northwest climate.
Project Overview
The home already had great architectural features and strong curb appeal, but the existing exterior was beginning to show the effects of years of exposure to sun, moisture, and seasonal weather changes. The homeowners wanted a color palette that felt warm and timeless while adding more depth and personality to the property.
Pewter Green served as the primary body color, creating a rich, earthy tone that changes beautifully throughout the day. Pat Brown added warmth and contrast to key architectural elements, while Tyson Taupe provided a softer neutral balance that tied everything together.
The result is a color scheme that feels custom, sophisticated, and perfectly suited to the North Idaho landscape.
Our Process
Like all of our exterior painting projects, the process started with a complete pressure washing of both the home and detached shop. Proper cleaning removes dirt, dust, and loose material and creates the best possible surface for paint adhesion.
Once the surfaces were cleaned and dried, we moved into the preparation phase. This included sanding, caulking, masking, spot priming exposed areas, and addressing any locations where previous coatings had begun to wear. We also caulked around window trim and other transitions to improve both appearance and weather protection.
For the painted surfaces, we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Exterior Satin, one of the highest-performing exterior paint systems available. Emerald is known for its exceptional durability, color retention, and resistance to fading, making it an excellent choice for homes in Coeur d’Alene and throughout North Idaho.
One of the unique aspects of this project was the amount of natural wood detail incorporated into the home’s design. The front gables, decorative vents, and wood posts were all carefully restored using Messmers Semi-Transparent Stain. Rather than covering the natural wood character, the stain enhances the grain and texture while providing protection from the elements.
Attention to the Details
Projects like this are often won or lost in the details. The stained wood accents play a major role in the home’s overall appearance, so extra care was taken to properly prepare and restore those areas. We removed any loose or failing material before applying stain and worked the product into the wood to maximize penetration and longevity.
The detached shop was also painted to match the main residence, helping the entire property feel unified and intentional. From the front elevation to the backyard views, every angle of the property now feels connected.
Final Results
The finished project completely transformed the look of the home while still feeling natural and timeless. The depth of Pewter Green creates a striking first impression, while the warm Pat Brown accents and soft Tyson Taupe details add balance and character throughout the exterior.
Combined with the restored wood features and freshly painted detached shop, the property now has a polished, custom appearance that stands out without feeling overly bold.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful color selection, proper preparation, and premium materials can completely elevate a home’s exterior while providing the durability needed to withstand North Idaho’s changing seasons.
