Exterior House Painting in Colbert, WA

A home with a mix of natural stone, wood details, and traditional siding has a lot of character, and the right paint job can really bring it all together.

For this exterior house painting project in Colbert, WA, just north of Spokane, our Axiom Painting crew worked on everything from the siding and trim to the garage doors, window frames, and exposed wood features.

There was plenty of prep work involved, including some older wooden windows that needed extra attention. With a home like this, it’s not just about giving everything a fresh coat of paint. It’s about taking the time to do each part properly so the finished result looks great and holds up for years to come.

Preparing a Colbert Home for a Long-Lasting Paint Job

Anyone familiar with living in the Spokane area knows how much our homes go through in a year. Between hot, dry summers, freezing winter temperatures, and plenty of seasonal changes, exterior paint needs to do more than look good on the day it’s applied.

That’s why we put so much emphasis on preparation. Before painting, our crew works through the surfaces that need attention, including cleaning, sanding, caulking, and protecting surrounding areas with careful masking and drop cloths.

On this Colbert home, one area that needed extra care was the two wooden windows at the front of the house. The existing paint was failing, particularly around the window sills.

Rather than simply painting over the problem, our process called for scraping away the loose paint, sanding the surfaces, applying an oil-based exterior primer, and finishing with two coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald.

It’s the kind of work that might not be obvious in the finished photos, but it makes a real difference in how well a paint job performs.

Exterior Painting with Sherwin-Williams Emerald

For the main exterior, the customer chose Tricorn Black for the trim and color matched the body to the shop on their property. We selected Sherwin-Williams Emerald Exterior Paint in a satin finish. Emerald is one of Sherwin-Williams’ premium exterior paint products, designed to provide excellent coverage, durability, and resistance to the weather.

For homeowners looking for professional exterior painting in Spokane or Colbert, product quality matters. A lower-quality paint might look fine initially, but our goal is always to give customers a finish they can feel confident about for the long haul.

The painting scope included the home’s lap siding, 14 window trim areas, fascia, soffits, door casings, foundation, and both the single and double garage doors.

We used a combination of spraying, brushing, and rolling, depending on the surface and what would produce the best result.

And as with our exterior painting projects, two finish coats were part of the plan. We believe proper coverage is essential, and we don’t consider a job finished simply because the color looks good after the first coat.

Paying Attention to the Details

One of the interesting things about this home was the combination of materials and architectural features. The natural stone around portions of the exterior and garage added character, while the painted siding and trim helped bring the different areas of the property together.

The project also involved coordinating around several exterior updates, including replacement windows and changes to the front entry. Those details required some flexibility and planning to make sure the painting work fit with the other improvements being made.

We also included touch-up caulking throughout the exterior. Small gaps and joints might seem insignificant, but addressing them is an important part of achieving a clean, finished appearance.

For our crew, craftsmanship isn’t just about the large surfaces everyone notices. It’s about taking the same care around windows, doors, trim, and transitions between materials.

Natural Wood Staining for the Back Porch

Not every part of this Colbert exterior needed paint. The back porch featured exposed wooden posts and supports that were better suited to a natural stained finish. For these areas, we specified Messmer’s semi-transparent stain in a natural finish.

The goal of the wood staining was to preserve the warmth and character of the wood while adding protection against outdoor exposure. We also included staining the wooden privacy fence surrounding the air-conditioning equipment, helping it blend more naturally with the rest of the property.

It’s a good example of how exterior painting and wood staining can work together. Different materials need different treatments, and choosing the right product for each surface is part of getting the job right.
