A child’s bedroom has to do a lot. It’s a place to sleep, play, read, and spread out every toy in the house. When Chandler of Spokane Eats asked Axiom Painting to paint her daughter’s bedroom in Colbert, Washington, just north of Spokane, we wanted to give the whole room a clean, finished look while keeping it warm and inviting.
With the help of Cathy from Hue Color Decor, Chandler chose Hush White by Sherwin-Williams in their new Emerald Symmetry line (more on that later!). It’s a soft white that brightens the space without making it feel stark, and it gives the room’s colorful bedding, artwork, and little details room to shine.
Painting the Whole Bedroom, Not Just the Walls
This Spokane-area interior painting project included the walls and ceiling, window trim, doors, and baseboards. Painting all of those surfaces together made a difference. The walls could look fresh, but if the trim or ceiling looked tired beside them, the room wouldn’t have the same finished feel.
The bedroom has several windows, so the trim needed careful attention. Clean lines around each window help frame the natural light coming into the room. We also painted the doors and baseboards, bringing the same crisp look all the way around the space.
Why We Used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Symmetry
For the walls, we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Symmetry in Hush White. Emerald Symmetry is a premium interior paint made with plant-based technology. It’s a zero-VOC paint that is GREENGUARD Gold certified for low chemical emissions, which made it an appealing choice for this little girl’s bedroom.
We chose a matte finish for the walls. It gives Hush White a soft appearance while letting the room’s furnishings and personal touches take center stage. The ceiling received a flat finish, and the trim and doors were finished in satin to give those details a subtle contrast.
The product choice matters, but so does the way it’s applied. Our crew took the time to prepare the surfaces and apply two finish coats for consistent coverage across the room.
The Prep Behind the Finish
Before opening a paint can, our crew protected the floors and anything in the room that wasn’t being painted. We cleaned and prepared the surfaces, then addressed the small holes, dents, and everyday marks that can build up in a well-used bedroom.
Wall repairs take more than a quick swipe of filler. We patched and textured the areas that needed it, sanded the surfaces, and primed the repairs before applying two finish coats. That work helps the repaired spots blend into the surrounding walls so they don’t draw your eye once the room is painted.
We also caulked where needed and carefully masked edges before painting. These steps aren’t the most dramatic part of a bedroom makeover, but they’re a big part of why the finished room looks neat from corner to corner.
A Bedroom That Feels Ready for What’s Next
The finished bedroom feels bright, calm, and personal. Hush White gives Chandler’s daughter a backdrop that works with the things she loves now and leaves plenty of flexibility as her tastes change. Fresh paint on the ceiling, trim, doors, and baseboards makes the entire space feel cared for, rather than making the walls look like the only thing that changed.
That’s one of our favorite things about bedroom painting: a single room can feel completely different without changing its layout or replacing everything in it. In this case, thoughtful prep, a beautiful color, and the right finishes gave a much-loved room a fresh start.
